I remember the moment when I knew I wanted to become a writer. It was when my mother and I went to see Gone with the Wind at London’s Leicester Square. The cinema was vast, with plush red velvet seats and an usherette offering vanilla ice-cream in little tubs. I watched in awe as the sweeping saga unfolded before my very eyes. A tale of love, loyalty and patriotism instantly made me fall in love with historical fiction, and I could not wait to get home to read the novel.
The reason I chose to write about the early 13th Century was because I happened to choose a module about the history of our legal system when I was studying for my law degree. To be told it all originated from the Magna Carta and the common law at the time, solidified my interest and enthusiasm for it.
My stories are based on real events and feature historical figures, but I also weave in fictional characters to enhance the narrative.
I live with my husband, a dog called Rocket and two cats; Fred and Buddy. I have three sons, but only one still lives at home. I love walking Rocket through the ancient woodlands that surround our home. Also, I love going out with friends up to London to catch a show with a glass or two of bubbly.
